Pausing in the Portal
Don Hynes
Pausing in the Portal
Approaching the portal
where what has been and what will be
softly separate in a single step,
I touch the bark of each tree,
each powerful trunk within arm’s reach,
roots entwined in the darkness,
high branches mingling in the sun,
the motion of blessing a welcome rest
along the weary trail of many miles.
Behind me all the dust and wonder
of campfires and companions,
before the possibilities born
of countless dreams and visions.
Now to pause and reach out,
to offer love and ask for protection.
Where I am going is as unknown
as the next lines of this poem.
With love,
Don Hynes
