The US Congress is considering TAXING THE INTERNET. The current ban EXPIRES on November 1, 2007!

The US House Judiciary Committee voted a 4 year extension of the ban out of Committee on October 11, 2007. On October 16, the entire US House voted on HR3678 to extend the ban for 4 years with 405 US Representatives voting to approve the ban.

However, the US Senate is stalled and may not get the tax ban approved in time. This means those of you on fixed incomes may be ROBBED of accessing the Internet because if the ban is not extended, the ALL levels of government could start taxing internet service. This means cities, counties, states, and the federal level could ALL begin taxing internet service!

US Senator from Hawaii, Daniel Inouyen, who heads the Senate Committee over the internet tax ban bill, has refused to let the tax ban bill come up for vote in the Committee. The ban must be approved by the Committee before it can be presented to and approved by the whole Senate!

There’s an apparent disagreement in the Senate between a permanent ban and a 4 year ban. Because the House has passed a 4-year ban and the current ban will EXPIRE on Nov. 1st, there’s no time to get a “permanent” ban passed because the House would have to vote again and there’s no time. If the Senate wastes time fighting over temporary or permanent bans, we COULD END UP with NO BAN!

Stalling bills in Committee is a sneaky way to FORCE NEW Internet taxes to be imposed because if the ban expires without being extended, we can be hit with taxes from all sides.

We need to call Senator Daniel Inouyen ASAP and tell him to let the 4 year tax ban bill get approved by Committee and then voted on and approved by the entire US Senate.

We ALL NEED TO CALL him THIS WEEK in his capacity as the Senate Committee Chairman – who controls the Committee agenda and what gets voted on – and tell him to let the Internet tax ban bill be voted on because we want the BAN extended. Tell his staff you know he’s the one stalling the internet tax ban bill and to pass on your message.

Generally, the Congressman’s staff don’t want to listen to you unless you come from the Senator’s state. However, Inouye is acting in “federal” capacity as the Committee Chairman and his staff MUST listen to you. There are ONLY TEN DAYS left – call Inouye on the first thing on Monday!
