The All-American tradition of bearing arms is something that is understood and respected in some states more than others.
When determining which states have the most guns we used the metric of what percent of households in a given state have pistols, shotguns, rifles, etc. and which do not.
Here, now, are the states with the most gun owners
Looks like we may have to move soon:

Surprisingly, Texas is number 18.
You would think the stereotyped gunslinger state would be numero uno, but you have to take into account all of the Yankee transplants in Houston, Dallas, and Austin.
Still, Texas has over 27,000,000 people and a helluva lot of guns, yet still holds a relatively low murder rate when compared to other heavily populated states.
I wonder if firearm ownership has something to do with this? ;)
